This eighth volume continues Burton's landmark complete English rendering of the Arabian Nights tales, originally compiled during the Islamic Golden Age. Published as a private subscription edition to circumvent Victorian obscenity laws, Burton's translation preserved the sexual content of the original stories while adding extensive scholarly footnotes on Oriental culture and customs that distinguished his work from previous bowdlerized versions.
