Far round illumined hell; highly they raged
Against the Highest, and fierce with grasped arms
Clashed on their sounding shields the din of war.

Fulgur ibi ad cœlum se tollit, totaque circum
Ære renidescit tellus, subterque, virûm vi,
Excitur pedibus sonitus, clamoreque montes
Ictei rejectant voces ad sidera mundi.
