"Meccania, the Super-State" by Owen Gregory is a dystopian novel published in 1918. A young Chinese traveler visits the fictional nation of Meccania in 1970, where every aspect of life falls under militaristic state control. Citizens wear occupational uniforms, letters are censored, phone calls monitored, and dissenters vanish into camps. The government dictates when couples have children and even regulates worker fatigue levels. Through the visitor's diary, readers experience a suffocating world of surveillance, propaganda, and dehumanization where independent thought itself becomes dangerous.
