A small clue on a banknote wrapper leads Alexis to realize Trot is his own son by Sibyl; he claims the boy but, moved by gratitude, agrees to let him remain with Linda for now and consults his solicitor to secure the child’s future. On the eve of the wedding, Sibyl plans her escape, writes a full confession to her uncle, and readies herself to return to her husband, as the household settles into a tense night before the fateful morning.
